Approximately one hour south of Hoi An lies Tam Ky, the capital city of Quang Nam Province, Central Vietnam. Tam Ky is home to historical sites such as Tam Thanh Cave and Ky Anh Tunnel (A 32km underground tunnel built during the American War). Tam Ky offers visitors a mix of traditional charm, modern amenities with an authentic Vietnamese flare.

The area boasts beautiful quiet beaches, a mural village, artistic basket boat displays and sculptures. Here visitors can explore exquisite artwork done by volunteer artists while relaxing and enjoying the sun and sea free of charge.

Tam Thanh village is a quaint locale along the coastline with captivating murals adorning the walls of houses, alleys and public spaces. The Art Path portrays beautiful artworks depicting scenes of daily life, local traditions and marine creatures, breathing new life into the village and showcasing the talent of the artists involved. 

One of our most memorable pass time was wander through the narrow lanes, taking in the stunning murals that added a splash of color to the traditional fishing village.

Another unique attraction in Tam Thanh is the Round Boat Art Project, a colourful display of over 90 round boats. These circular vessels, known as “thung chai” in Vietnamese, are not only functional for fishing and recreation but also serves as floating canvases for the artists to showcase their skills. 

The colorful patterns and motifs painted on these boats reflect the maritime heritage of the village and add a touch of whimsy to the tranquil waters.

Should you choose to stroll along the sandy shores of Tam Thanh, admire the murals, watch fishermen prepare their boats for the day’s catch, sink your toes in the sand or all of the above. A visit to this artistic fishing village is a memorable experience that celebrates the intersection of art, culture and community in this picturesque setting on Vietnam’s central coast.

Tam Thanh Mural Village is approx. one hour by car south of Hoi An. Getting there is an easy drive via the highway. Be sure to make enquiries through your hotel, local travel guide, book a car rental with driver or book a taxi service for a half day tour of the area. The area also has numerous eateries and homestays.
