A quick drive along a scenic route found us in the rolling hills and lush greenery of the Noosa Hinterland. Kin Kin is a small country locale perfect for those looking to explore the less-trodden paths of the Sunshine Coast. This little town is a blend of scenic beauty, history and tranquil vibes.

A Brief History Of Kin Kin


The name Kin Kin is believe to be an Aboriginal word referring to a species of black ant, that are native to the area. Historically, Kin Kin was a timber and dairy town. Over the years, as the timber and dairy industries waned, Kin Kin transformed into a peaceful rural community.

Getting There:
A scenic drive approximately 40 kilometers west of Noosa Heads into the hinterland. Various shuttle service and public transport options can get you to Pomona, where you might catch a taxi or a local bus service for the final leg of your journey to Kin Kin.

Things To Do In Kin Kin

Kin Kin General Store – No trip to Kin Kin is complete without a visit to the historic General Store. It has served as the town’s meeting place for decades and is the perfect spot to grab a bite, enjoy local artwork and absorb the village’s friendly atmosphere.

The Noosa Trail Network – For the avid walker or mountain biker, the trails that weave around Kin Kin offer a spectacular way to explore the Noosa Hinterland. The trails provides a unique view of the countryside, wildlife and native vegetation.

Great Noosa Trail Walk – An annual event that should not be missed if you’re visiting at the right time. This community-organized walk spans over three days and takes participants through some of the most stunning parts of the Noosa Hinterland, including Kin Kin.

Kin Kin Creations Pottery – Visit local potter, Phil Willy and marvel at the unique creations. You can even sign up for a pottery class if you’re interested in getting your hands dirty and creating something of your own.

Kin Kin Depot – A colorful entrance on the main street of Kin Kin. This little shop has unique gifts for all ages. Here you will find new and vintage  items from local artworks, homewares, collectibles and much more.

The Kin Kin Country Markets – Held on the first Sunday of every month. The market boast a treasure trove of local produce, crafts and plants. It’s a wonderful place to interact with the locals and take home a piece of Kin Kin.
